I thought it would be interesting to see how you all prepare your home made Chili. Here is how I make mine:

Ingredients:

1 lb. ground beef
1-2 onions
1 large can cubed tomatoes
2-3 cans of beans (I always use different ones)
1 pack of hot tacco seasoning
1 pack of chili seasoning
1 can of refried beans with mild jalopenos
1 small glass of salsa
1 and 1/4 cup of water

Topping:
Sour cream
shredded cheese
Nachos

Method:

Chop onions, then fry in a skillet until translucent, add ground beef and fry until brown, keep breaking it up. Add the water and pour in the tacco and chili seasonings - let simmer for a while.

In the meantime, drain and rinse beans and place them in the crockpot. Add salsa, refried beans, tomatoes and ground beef mixture. Mix well, cover and cook on low for a minimum of 6 hours.

Place in a bowl, top with sour cream and cheese and serve with nachos (I love tostitos with a hint of lime)

Tip: you can also use dried beans if you want to omit preservatives. Simply let the beans soak in water over night and set time of the crock pot to 8-10 hours on low.

I am not a person who likes a lot of heat in the meal, so even though I use medium salsa and hot tacco seasoning, it is not too hot for me, so if you like it really hot, use hot salsa, that should do the trick Wink

I use homegrown rabbit or venison, experiment with a lot of different beans & look for homemade salsa at the farmer's market or friends to barter with.
