My baby is almost going to be 4 months old and she is having a bit of a congested nose. we have tried everything from using salien drops, the asperator to clean out her nose, baby vapor rub, using the baby vapor soap for her bath, we bought a vaporizor and giving her baby tylenol and none of that is working. Is there anything else that I may be able to use to help her feel better.
(word of caution: I do not want her to ingest anything, I am strict about that.) _________________

what we always did at home was preparing camilla tea in a bowl, a towel over the head and breathing in the fumes.
Does she have a cold or could she have an allergy? _________________

We think she may have a cold, but I was talking to one of my co-workers who had his baby 3 months before mine he was telling me it was because of teething (I guess it congests them up). But to tell you the truth I have no idea what is causing it. _________________

that could well be the cause. although I am the wrong person to answer that since I have not had a child yet. _________________

I agree about the ingesting of OTC.
How about baby and daddy hang out in the bathroom with some steam and then they go into the cool air. If the airways are swollen this will help.
Her airways are swollen and teeth provoke the swelling also.
Allegies could also be provoking it, but for now you are doing good
with what you have in your mind. The baby can't be checked really for allergies until she is 3 or so.
Your instincts will tell you much of what you need to know. Both mom and dad know. There is Vicks for babies; more gentle. Take some and massage a bit on her feet and put some footies over top.
May I suggest that at the same time you consider getting a really
good air purifier?
How do you feel about your pediatrician? You might consider giving
them a call because the baby may have to pause with feeding eh which can lead to gas?
I Love Zauberins thoughts too. Camomile is something to have around in the form of tea.
If this is your first baby Ocelot please remember that whatever comes; a cold, gas all of those things.... pass most times as quickly as they come.
I may seem a bit scattered, and in advance I say that I am sorry.
I have two sons. I have been down this road many times with both. _________________

If she is running a fever it is either a cold or the teething, you don't run a fever with allergies. Take it from one who is pretty much allergic to damn near everything.
If it is a cold, Pedialite instead of a couple of bottles of formula will cut the mucus, either that or juice. The steam will also help open up her nasal passages.
Good luck, Kitty! This too shall pass (until the next time. ) _________________

Kitty, while I know you are against OTC. Infant Tylenol is really an ok and very effective medicine for babies. She could have a headache with the stuffy nose. If she is teething, that HURTS. She will not become addicted. You don't have to give it to her every time. But in all seriousness, it does help wonders on the wee ones.
Also, elevate her crib (if she is in one) so she's not flat on the mattress. That also helps with congestion. _________________

Spilanthes (AKA "Toothache Plant") is supposed to work great - including, (diluted), for teething children. Check out Horizon Herbs website - they have lots of good info on various herbs' usage. I tried to grow some this year, for someone on this board, but it never came up.
As for the congestion, etc. --> I'd listen to the experts that have dealt with this many times before = the mothers on here. _________________ "In the Land of the Blind, the One-Eyed Man is King"

Don't get me wrong, I gave her Infant Tylenol already, the only thing I am against is her ingesting anything else, I.e. drinking camilla tea, water (you don't know how many people told me to give her water), pretty much nothing execpt what the pediatrician tells me to give her.
Also, has anyone herd of the Organic Teething Tablets having belladona? _________________

This is not for ingesting
put some water in a pan, boil the water and add eucalyptus oil or the actual leaves, when it is boiling, place the water in a bowl. and let he steam near her. Just so she inhales the smell _________________

Good info Abby (although I knew what it is and what it causes). The only reason I asked about the Teething Tablets having belladonna in them is that my wife did some research and she was saying that the Teething Tablets are linked to infant seizures, I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about this. _________________

I know im pretty late on posting this but for future referance.
if a baby is all stuffed up and it just wont go away try looking into a milk allergy. cow milk is mucus producing. formula is made from cows milk. try using soy products or if you nurse your baby try thinking about what you have been eating. never give a child under the age of one straight milk from cows or goats unless aproved by a pediatrition. if you introduce foods to fast you can create food allergys. _________________

Kitty, I would not condone giving a baby Belladonna. Its dangerous and you have no idea what dosage to give her. Vicks vapor rub and otc bath bubbles with lavender and menthol/eucalyptus is very calming and opens the passages. _________________
