I was wondering would it be possible to use one of the animals from pokemon as a familiar? it would be kinda like useing a mythical animal, and all the pokemon have their own special ability's like fire, water, ice, earth, psychic so could I use them for magic and such? _________________ Fairy tales don't tell children that dragons exist. I thought so too, my friend has all this Pokemon stuff and some are really cool so I was thinking of using thoughs as magical animals in wicca and he said it sounded pretty cool _________________ Fairy tales don't tell children that dragons exist. It makes a certain amount of sense. When one creates a thought form it can take on a life of its own. All the people who concentrate on Pokemons for one reason or another they are providing energy to Pokemons thought forms. It could work. _________________ .

I don't see why not; if you feel drawn to doing so, and the idea brings you joy and it makes sense to you, then sure! It might be fun _________________

Please don't. Witchcraft & magickal practices are already a big enough joke to some people in this world, don't make it any worse. I'm not trying to be a bitch or be overtly cynical -- simply honest. _________________

Some say in ice.

I hold with those who favor fire.

I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

Popular culture is the expression of the need for myth in our modern world. There is nothing wrong in using characters from TV shows or movies as symbols in everyday magickal or religious work.
Is it also a joke to work with dragons, or the fae? Creatures most non-magickal people would say don't exist in "real life"?
Just because Pokemon are a modern concept doesn't mean they're not valid in a mythical sense.
It's incredibly rude to tell someone not to do something within his or her own personal religious/magickal practice because it might reflect badly on you. _________________ getyourwordsout 2010: 39,932 / 200,000

I don't believe in dragons or the fae myself, but it's not a joke seeing as it's culture; my ancestors from Newfoundland had strong belief in fairies but I don't recall any of them talking to their neighbours about Pikachu kidnapping their grandchildren.
I didn't tell the original poster NOT to do what s/he wants, I voiced my opinion and politely asked them not to. Taking everything in moderation is fine, for example, possibly fooling around with abstract concepts of spells from books (such as Harry Potter). But I do remember members of the board bitching about individuals who took it too far & too seriously; this is how I view the OPs thoughts about using Pokemon in magickal pursuits. I am just saying it's ridiculous from my P.O.V. and I doubt many people will take him/her seriously when Toadstool approaches a group of practitioners and announces, "hey, my familiar is a Pokemon."
But I'd prefer not to get into a heated discussion with you, for the sake that it might turn bad as some debates like to do. I respect you enough to sidestep that problem. _________________

| I tend to prefer the "if it works for you, do it" philosophy to things rather than worry how outside people may view it. |
