Is it possible to be born a witch with natural power, or does it all just come from witchcraft? _________________ ~Kitty~ |

Some people believe that to be a "true witch" you have to be born into the religion. Others believe that it doesn't matter and actually witchcraft can be taught.
Personally I don't believe in being born into it. and I'm not sure many people on this board do. _________________

honestly, the idea that people need to be born into witchcraft is just another example of classist, oppressive b.s.
witchcraft is just that. a craft. you have to work at it. _________________

a witch practices witchcraft. if you don't practice witchcraft, you're not a witch.
ergo, being born a witch = being born into witchcraft.
(and not everyone considers it a religion, fyi.) _________________

I don't think so, just becaused you were born into a family of a certain religion it doesn't mean you have to belong to that religion. I was born into a Catholic family but I never considered myself Catholic, I chose a different path. |

Are you maybe referring to special abilities? Like empathy, healing, psychic abilities, telekinesis and so on? those are usually abilities you are born with. But in my opinion they have nothing to do with witchcraft. You are born with these abilities, but you can still chose to be a witch. Not all witches have special abilities, they follow the craft because they feel comfortable with it. _________________ - the light in me honors the light in you -

Then, if it wouldn't be too much trouble - ELABORATE. Thank you. That way you get the answers you are looking for without us having to guess and play 20 questions.

It depends on what your definition of abilities is. If you mean like Harry Potter type abilities... then NO. That is a fantasy story. Witches are human like everyone else, with choices.
Personally, I believe that the attributes that make Witches what they are are things that everyone is born with; but those of us who are witches are highly sensitive people of some sort who can tap into those parts of our brains that some others either can't, or that they may have some resistance to.
And those things include what Isis mentioned, empathy, sensitivity, healing, energy receptivity, etc. We may see things that others don't'; hear things, know things, etc.
And knowing that, we can make a choice. We can be whatever religion we want, and we can become greater more responsible people utilizing the tools. The true gift of being a witch is being able to tap into and use the tools that almost all human beings are given. We have the gift of awareness.
Of course, this is my theory based on the teachings that I've had over the years, and my own introspection. I'm sure that you'll find many other theories, including some different theories on this board...
I would suggest doing some reading (there's a great list of recommended books in the beginner's section) and also some introspection and journaling on the subject.
Best of luck
